6. Analysis and Conclusion
The key literature theorists that I reinforced in my findings were Blumler and Katz, they served a large purpose within my research as they supported the reasons to why people feel the need to satisfy certain desires. Another theorist that was significantly present during the research was McQuail, as he broke down Blumler and Katz theory into more detailed categories. Maslow stated that 'individuals must satisfy lower level deficit needs before progressing on to higher level growth needs', suggesting that the audience must satisfy there lower desires before moving onto those of higher desires. Another theorist that I reinforced in my project is Morley, he stated that 'personality types in the audience gave rise to certain needs, some of which are directed to the mass media for satisfaction' this signifying that platforms know exactly what they are doing by targeting the certain needs wanted by their audiences, thus creating more activity on their platforms. Raymond Williams supports the fact that commercially funded systems are 'selling the audiences to advertisers', this is a large reason to why I think Netflix is becoming the new TV as many people are becoming aware of this are switching to Netflix to avoid this problem.
In conclusion, I found through my research that Netflix is becoming the modern TV, however, at a slow rate, this is due to the audience still wanting to satisfy there needs for real-life programmes, such as the news and sports.
