4. Methodology

Upon deciding what two methods of research would be most appropriate to my project, I took into consideration my audience and the method of research they would prefer to answer. As I am of similar age to my audience, I myself thought that a questionnaire would be ideal, however, I would create this as an internet-based questionnaire. By doing this I could design the questionnaire with it being entirely anonymous so I would not have to hand out physical copies to my audience, making this a more approachable and comfortable way for them to answer. I will post my questionnaire onto social media, being Instagram and Snapchat as I have followers on these that would be able and willing to answer. Furthermore, their ages are of a range, this, therefore, giving me a more diverse response.

I used a website named EasyQuest to create my online questionnaire. By including a range of categories of the answer choice, this kept the questionnaire short and easy for the audience to respond to, otherwise, they may have become overwhelmed. Furthermore, I kept the questionnaire length brief as this would also appeal to the respondent and make this simpler for them.

The other method I used to conduct my research was a focus group, I asked 2 people a variety of questions and recorded this via Voice Notes on my phone. I wrote down a range of questions asking my audience's opinion on the subject matter, for example, 'Do you think Netflix is addictive if so what are your reasons?' by asking questions like these I could gain an honest and real response from them. I decided to manage a focus group as this would allow longer discussions on issues than a survey/questionnaire would, this, therefore, giving a more detailed response. To identify a sample of respondents I asked people of which I knew had Netflix accounts and also had access to a TV as this would then, therefore, give more accurate and truthful responses.
