2. Generating Ideas

During the module, I have thought about numerous topics that I could focus on, I have narrowed my thoughts down to streaming, specifically Netflix. I found that through my 48-hour media log I had an unhealthy relationship with Netflix and that I only watched programmes on this streaming service and not on a TV. I, therefore, want to explore whether Netflix has become the modern day TV and to identify why this is, if so. I am particularly interested in Netflix as I know this is a large streaming service and I know many people use this service, therefore I wanted to know if there was becoming a decline in the number of viewers that watch TV due to this service. I know that I don't watch TV as I am not so keen on the content that it holds, as well as having to watch what is on there and then. I have decided that my question for this research project will be 'Is Netflix the modern TV?'.

I am particularly interested in targeting demographic groups such as education and employment, I feel this would affect the results as many university students may not have access to a TV, whereas a family would have access to one. I feel as though age will definitely have an effect on whether or not the audience prefer Netflix or TV, as the younger generation was brought up in a digital era whereas, the older generation 40+ may prefer to watch TV as they were brought up with these. I have decided that I am going to ask a demographic of people who live within the United Kingdom, this is because outside of the country they will have different programmes being aired on their TV, therefore this would alter the responses and create a diverse overall answer.

Below is the ethics form that I filled out in order to create my project
